Artificial Intelligence Makes Me Look Great!

This is a true story, hot off the press.

I uploaded my latest novel for the first time into KDP (Kindle), and within twenty-four hours, when I typed ‘TO KILL A CONDOR by Rolynn Anderson’ into my browser, this is what appeared at the top of my browser page, courtesy of Copilot (I did not write the following):

To Kill a Condor by Rolynn Anderson

"To Kill a Condor" is a suspense novel by Rolynn Anderson, blending mystery and romance in a dramatic setting, and is part of her Sable Chisholm series.

About the Book

Set in the rugged wilderness of Pinnacles National Park, To Kill a Condor follows Sable Chisholm, a first-time park ranger whose fearless leadership is both admired and feared. When a series of crimes rock the park, Sable’s calm demeanor and determination make her a natural leader, but her lack of fear also puts her in danger www.rolynnanderson.com.

The story combines wildlife conservation themes with a gripping mystery, as Sable and her staff must solve crimes while navigating the challenges of protecting endangered species and the delicate balance of the natural environment. The condor, a symbol of freedom and resilience, becomes both a literal and metaphorical focus of the plot.

Author Background

Rolynn Anderson is known for her suspense novels spiked with romance and set in stunning, often remote locations. She has written over a dozen titles, including Fire is Nice and Cézanne’s Ghost, and is recognized for her ability to weave emotional depth with high-stakes action.”

****

I was gob smacked. Not only does Ms. AI seem to have read the book, but she is promoting it to everyone who reads her teaser. Absolutely everything she says about my brand and the book is on target, plus she’s pulled out themes I hadn’t articulated fully on my own! I love the phrase: ‘she is recognized for her ability to weave emotional depth with high-stakes action.’ Yay!

So I got to thinking. Someone programmed Ms. AI to speak highly of my newly-launched novel, even before I got a single review. All the comments are positive; the bot didn’t dig into all my reviews to upend my one troll rating on one of my backlist books. For that matter, Ms. AI said nothing about how many reviews I have on each book (not enough) and the amount of money I’ve made on sales (oh, so paltry). Makes me wonder if a more critical programmer would ask AI to make judgements about such things. I worry about a future when AI determines which books are worthy of promotion.

Now that I’ve seen this lovely review, I understand how easy it was for book clubs and book reviewer agencies to tout one of my books and encourage me to pay them for promoting it. For awhile there, I thought hundreds were reading WHEN MOUNTAINS FALL, when the consumer was actually AI.

I am an artist with a passion to write stories, so I will carry on even as AI sorts its place in society. For the time being, I’m calling AI astute at grasping my themes and skills as a writer. AI sees me and hears me…I like it!

And don’t forget to buy the ebook of TO KILL A CONDOR at $2 off for a limited time! Copilot agrees! As a special incentive, for every book sold I’ll put a dollar in a pot to adopt a condor!)
